One Room Challenge Before I even moved into the Color Filled Cottage, I started redoing the laundry room. It's actually a laundry room / half bath, just off the kitchen and right to the left as you come in from the garage. I got started, but never finished the laundry room. (Please tell me I'm not the only one that starts but then stalls when doing projects.) My goal for joining the six week One Room Challenge is to get me moving again, a personal challenge for myself. Fingers ... Read More about Updating a Laundry Room in an Age in Place Home
Dreaming of Yellow Kitchen Cabinets
So you think I'm going to just put up the tiles and be done with it? Oh, you don't really know me yet, do you? I'm going "all in" on this French Country inspired kitchen. I'm painting the kitchen cabinets a rustic, textured light yellow to bring out the background color of the tile. Now don't freak out over YELLOW cabinets! Think crème brûlée. Chiffon yellow. Lemon sorbet. Whipped butter. A light and fluffy colored yellow. A Yellow GE Wonder Kitchen Before we get to my ... Read More about Dreaming of Yellow Kitchen Cabinets
Inspiration for a French Country Kitchen
Love for a Tile Have you ever fallen in love with a decor item that keeps bubbling up in the back of your mind? About three years ago, I was browsing the internet when I ran across some wall tiles that had an artisan feel to them. It was LOVE at first sight. Be still my heart. Knees buckling, heart fluttering. One of those "you had me at hello" moments! All of that. And like anyone who has been struck by Cupid, I wanted everyone to see my new love. I can't wait to introduce YOU to her, too! Meet ... How to Make a Ruffled Garland
The living room of the Color Filled Cottage has 12 foot ceilings - not what one typically thinks of as cottagey, I know, but oh so gorgeous! For this, my second Christmas in the Cottage, I've invested in a 9 foot artificial tree to take advantage of all that vertical space. Decorating it is both an opportunity and a challenge. An opportunity because it's a wonderfully huge surface to decorate - I get to use ALL the ornaments I've collected. (I mean, a girl doesn't work at HomeGoods and then ... Cutting Wood Scrapbook Paper with a Digital Cutting Machine
When I got the Cricut Maker, I was excited by the possibility of being able to cut balsa and basswood with it. But Cricut took extra time to make sure the Maker's special Knife Blade functioned exactly how they wanted it to work and have only just released it this past week. I've definitely placed my order for one! (And if you're as excited by the Knife Blade as I am, make sure to read Angie's review at The Country Chic Cottage!) But before it comes, I had a project I wanted to do with the ... Read More about Cutting Wood Scrapbook Paper with a Digital Cutting Machine
Turning a Dining Room into an Office
One of the things I looked for in all the houses I considered was a "formal" dining room that was semi-open to the living room, right inside the front door. I knew I could turn the space into either a guest bedroom or an office without having to have a fourth bedroom (and the extra $$ that would add to the asking price). I lucked out that the house I decided on also has a sunroom that can serve as the guest bedroom, so an office it is! Can't wait to share with you my plans for it. If it seems ... A New Cottage to Fill with Color
Once upon a time, there was a girl who dreamed of living in a cottage and filling it with color. When she was in her thirties, she bought her first house and did just that. It was the era of mauve and seafoam green and she "did it" to the nth degree. Then life happened and she got married and moved out of that cottage into a new house onto which she also put her color filled stamp. And then life happened again and she got divorced and moved into a townhouse. And then into an apartment and ... Read More about A New Cottage to Fill with Color
